The DCR 2021 Partnership Matching Funds program, provides vital matching funds for projects that improve or enhance the Commonwealth’s natural, cultural, and recreational resources.
BOSTON — The Baker-Polito Administration today announced $960,305 in funding to 34 projects proposed by municipalities, non-profit organizations, and other entities as part of the 2021 Partnerships Matching Funds Program. The program, administered by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), provides vital matching funds for projects that improve or enhance the Commonwealth’s natural, cultural, and recreational resources.
“By partnering with the private sector, we can leverage state funds with private dollars to invest in a first-class state parks system in Massachusetts for generations to come,” said Governor Charlie Baker. “The funding provided to these projects through the Partnerships Matching Funds Program will enhance the natural beauty, ecological health, and outdoor recreational opportunities of state parks throughout the Commonwealth.”
“Through close partnerships with park advocacy groups, non-profit organizations, individuals, and municipal leaders, our Administration is able to make significant investments in our parks system,” said Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito. “We are proud to continue these partnerships with awards to great projects that will strengthen community connections, build stronger economies, and address the needs of our local parks, communities, and regions.”
Proposed projects within the state parks system are thoroughly reviewed by agency staff and the DCR Commissioner. The agency then matches the private investment, once projects are selected. All projects are managed by DCR to oversee the implementation of the project with considerable consultation from contributing partners and other stakeholders.
“We are fortunate to work with dedicated organizations that submitted applications seeking to partner with the Commonwealth to enhance the state parks system and open space,” said Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Kathleen Theoharides. “Treating aquatic invasive species, purchasing new park equipment, refurbishing memorials, and restoring trout habitat are just a few of the many projects that will improve the health of our parks and enhance the visitor experience across our system.”
“The Department of Conservation and Recreation is frequently reminded of the tremendous support it receives from environmental and recreational organizations, park advocacy groups, and community supporters that helps the state parks system thrive,” said DCR Commissioner Jim Montgomery. “The Partnership Matching Funds Program improves DCR assets by providing critical funds to thoughtful projects that will truly benefit the public for years to come.”
DCR matches partner contributions of up to and including $25,000 at 2:1, and 1:1 for contributions above $25,000. In meticulously reviewed circumstances, DCR will consider a 2:1 match for contributions above $25,000, for example multi-phase projects with the same partner. Partner matches are donated to the Commonwealth’s Conservation Trust.
