Chairman Jeffrey Carvalho and the Dighton Trails Committee would like to invite community members to attend the upcoming Taunton River Trail at Sweets Knoll State Park Improvements Project Public Listening Session.
The Taunton River Trail at Sweets Knoll State Park Improvements Project Public Listening Session will be hosted by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) virtually on Tuesday, March 29, from 6-7:30 p.m.

“We encourage all those in our community to virtually attend this upcoming public listening session to learn more about the proposed plans for the Sweets Knoll State Park Improvements Project,” said Carvalho. “Not only will this forum give community members the opportunity to hear about the project from the team spearheading the endeavor, but it will also allow them the time to ask questions and share any feedback that they may have.”
At this virtual public meeting, the project team will present preliminary concepts for a 2-mile rail trail within Sweets Knoll State Park, along with associated trailheads, parking and access. The envisioned trail would run on the alignment of the existing DCR-owned rail right-of-way between Sandpiper Way in the North and the Town of Dighton-owned parking lot across Somerset Avenue from Alice’s Last Stop. Part of a larger envisioned regional multi-use path, this segment would provide recreational opportunities for Dighton residents as well as access to the Taunton River, town offices and athletic facilities, and other local amenities.
During the meeting, the public will be invited to ask questions and provide feedback on the presentation using the question and answer functionality that will be available through the virtual participation platform. After the meeting, the presentation will be available for viewing here.
The DCR encourages the public to share additional feedback, with a deadline for receipt of comments by DCR of April 12. Comments may be submitted online here.
If you have agency-related questions or concerns or would like to be added to an email list to receive DCR general or project-specific announcements, please email Mass.Parks@mass.gov or call 617-626-4973.
